More help is on its way.
10 days after Typhoon Nina (international name Nock-ten) hit provinces in Bicol, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) continues to deploy teams to help in the relief distribution in the hardest hit provinces as part of the emergency operations.
To spearhead the distribution and visit the families and affected areas in Albay, Catanduanes, and Camarines Sur, PRC Chairman Richard Gordon along with PRC Secretary General Atty. Oscar Palabyab will be going to Baras, Catanduanes, Polangui, Albay and Sagnay, Camarines Sur today, January 5, to provide relief supplies to 928 families.
The humanitarian caravan, loaded with emergency relief supplies for 1,500 families and response equipment, deployed last December 30 has already reached Catanduanes, Albay and Marinduque. Another batch of relief supplies for 2,500 families was also deployed last January 3. With the dispatched supplies and equipment, PRC staff and volunteers were able to distribute 538 food items, 1,072 sleeping kits (blankets, sleeping mats and mosquito nets), 1072 hygiene kits, 1,287 jerry cans and 1,287 tarpaulins, as well as distributed up to 35,500 liters of safe and clean water.
Apart from relief items, Operation Heads and Chapter Support Teams have been deployed to,Albay, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Marinduque and Oriental Mindoro to augment the chapters in delivering the emergency response interventions as well as continuously assessing their needs.
These are all part of PRC’s commitment to provide timely humanitarian assistance and disaster response to the most vulnerable. PRC, through the help of staff and volunteers pledged to continue to help and provide support as families begin to get back on their feet and rebuild their lives again.
